European shares flat as investors take stock of mixed earnings updates

Europe’s benchmark share index was subdued on Tuesday as shares of BP fell after the energy giant suspended share buybacks, while gains in luxury stocks following a better-than-expected earnings update from Kering limited declines. The pan-European STOXX 600 index was flat at 621.28 points at 0815 GMT and was just a whisker away from an intra-day all-time high. BP dropped 4% after the UK company posted quarterly profit in line with analyst expectations and suspended its share buyback programme as it wrote down around $4 billion in its renewables and biogas businesses. The broader energy sector slipped 1.1%. On the flip side, luxury stocks gained 1.2%, led by a 13.5% jump in France’s Kering as investors were relieved that it reported a slightly smaller-than-expected drop in fourth-quarter sales, as new CEO Luca de Meo battles to stabilise the Gucci owner. European shares close at record high as AI worries ease Investors were also exercising caution ahead of a slew of economic data out of the U.S. this week, including pivotal inflation and jobs reports. Among others, TUI, Europe’s largest travel operator by market share, reported an operating profit above expectations for its first quarter, although concerns about weaker forward bookings sent shares down 2.8%. Sweden’s Thule gained 12.7% after the recreational equipment maker beat quarterly revenue expectations, helped by acquisitions. [...]

China stocks close higher as gains in communications sector outweigh property losses

SHANGHAI: Mainland China stocks closed slightly higher on Tuesday, with gains in the communications sector outweighing losses in property shares, as trading gradually thinned ahead of the long Lunar New Year holiday. At the close, the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.13%, while the blue-chip CSI300 Index inched higher by 0.11%. China’s onshore media stocks surge on excitement over ByteDance’s latest AI video-generation model, with the CSI media sub-index closed up 4.2% and the CSI film and TV sub-index surging 9.3%. Meanwhile, property shares fell, with the CSI real estate sub-index losing about 2%. “We sense a notable pick-up in interest in the chemicals sectors and in the A-share semi-cap equipment sector, which is benefiting from the domestic AI upcycle,” said James Wang, head of China strategy at UBS Investment Bank Research. Trading is expected to be thin this week ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday, which is the biggest festival in China. The week-long holiday runs from February 15 to 23 this year. China, HK shares bounce on surge in US, Japan stocks Turnover of onshore shares logged 2.11 trillion yuan ($305.27 billion) on Tuesday, the lowest level this year. In Hong Kong, the benchmark Hang Seng Index advanced 0.58%. Bilateral relations between the world’s two largest economies saw fresh signs of easing as U.S. President Donald Trump is set to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing in April, Politico reported on Monday. President Xi on Monday stressed self-reliance and strength in science and technology, hailing it as the “key” in building China into a great modern socialist country, the official Xinhua news agency reported. Chinese stock exchanges announced measures on Monday to facilitate refinancing by “high-quality” listed companies to help them innovate or expand into new businesses. Separately, investors will watch upcoming economic data, including China’s January credit lending figures and U.S. employment and consumer price reports, for possible market impact. A Reuters poll predicts new loans from Chinese banks in January probably rose from the prior month to match the strong performance a year ago, supported by a stable monetary policy environment. That reflects sustained credit demand as economic recovery continues. [...]

Stocks rise as Nikkei sets record, dollar drops

SINGAPORE: Global stocks advanced in Asian trade on Tuesday, led by an extended rally in Tokyo’s benchmark after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s decisive election victory over the weekend. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.6%, while the Nikkei 225 jumped 2.3%, rising for a third consecutive day to a fresh peak. The yen also strengthened for a second day. The gains pushed the MSCI All-Country World Index 0.2% higher to a fresh record. U.S. equity futures cooled after a two-day rally, with S&P 500 e-mini futures down 0.1%, partially retracing gains on Wall Street overnight. On Monday, the S&P 500 rose 0.5% and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.9% as technology stocks found their footing following last week’s AI-sparked selloff. “Overall, we actually are quite positive on the economic situation, although we see maybe some cracks,” said Kees Verbaas, Robeco’s global head of fundamental equity. “The investment programmes of the large companies are increasing rather than decreasing… which typically is good for economic activity,” he added. “A lot of the AI supply chain is only possible thanks to emerging markets.” With several critical U.S. economic reports due for release this week including delayed payrolls data, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday job gains could be lower in the coming months as the Trump administration’s immigration policies slow labour growth and new AI tools boost productivity. Asia stocks rally as Nikkei jumps, chip sector rebounds Against the yen, the U.S. dollar was last down 0.4% at 155.315 yen. The U.S. dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was down 0.1%, wallowing near its lowest levels of the month at 96.86. The index logged its biggest one-day drop in two weeks on Monday, following a Bloomberg News report that Chinese regulators advised financial institutions to curb holdings of U.S. Treasury bonds due to concern over concentration risk and market volatility. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said on Monday that senior U.S. Treasury staff visited China last week “to strengthen channels of communication” between Washington and Beijing. Against the offshore yuan, the dollar was last down 0.1% at 6.9092 yuan. “Elevating the renminbi’s global role is moving up the policy agenda,” analysts from Alpine Macro wrote in a research note. “Beijing’s main goal is not to challenge the dollar’s dominance but to reduce vulnerability to it.” The yield on the U.S. 10-year Treasury bond was last flat at 4.184%. Market pricing continues to indicate that the Federal Reserve will remain on hold until June. Fed funds futures are pricing an implied 17.7% probability of a 25-basis-point rate cut at the U.S. central bank’s next two-day meeting ending March 18, compared with an 18.4% chance on Friday, according to the CME Group’s FedWatch tool. Indonesian markets remained composed throughout trading in Jakarta, rising 1% and largely unswayed by FTSE Russell’s decision to postpone a scheduled index review. Last month, larger rival MSCI warned the country risked a downgrade to frontier status over data transparency issues. In commodities markets, Brent crude was last flat at $69.06. Gold fell 0.6% to $5,033.752 per ounce, while silver lost 1.9% at $81.75 per ounce. Bitcoin fell 1.7% at $69,192.52, while ether tumbled 3.7% at $2,042.73. [...]

Nikkei, Topix race to record close on earnings, ‘Takaichi trade’ optimism

TOKYO: Japan’s Nikkei share average closed at a record high on Tuesday, following robust quarterly earnings and momentum from Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s landslide victory in the general election. The Nikkei 225 Index ended Tuesday’s session up 2.3% to 57,650.54 while the broader Topix, which also closed at a record high, advanced 1.9% to 3,855.28. Earnings season is underway in the world’s fourth-largest economy, and markets are buoyed by expectations that Takaichi’s overwhelming victory on Sunday would enable her to push through big spending and tax relief. “Following the ruling coalition’s landslide victory in the general election, expectations for proactive fiscal policy are rising, and hopes for an economic boost are spreading in the domestic stock market,” said Takayuki Miyajima, a senior economist at Sony Financial Group. The Nikkei is up 12% so far this year, supported by hopes of fiscal stimulus under Takaichi and a global tech rally that has boosted semiconductor and artificial intelligence-linked shares. Shares of cable maker Furukawa Electric reached their daily upper limit after the company reported solid earnings on Monday, rising 22.3% on Tuesday and gaining a whopping 49.6% over the past three sessions. Mazda Motor shares jumped 12%, the biggest daily gain since last July, after reporting better-than-expected results. Meanwhile, SoftBank Group, seen as a bellwether for artificial intelligence  sentiment in Japan, provided thebiggest lift to the Nikkei, gaining 10.7% after a rally in U.S. high-tech stocks and ahead of the company’s earnings on Thursday. There were 176 advancers on the Nikkei index against 46 decliners. [...]

Japan rubber futures snap four-day rally on stronger yen

Japan rubber futures snap four-day rally on stronger yen

Japanese rubber futures snapped a four-session winning streak on Tuesday, weighed down by a stronger yen, while firm spot prices and overseas buying supported Chinese and Singapore rubber prices. In contrast, the Osaka Exchange (OSE) rubber contract for July delivery closed down 4.5 yen, or 1.27%, at 350.4 yen ($2.25) per kg. The rubber contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange (SHFE) for May delivery rose 140 yuan, or 0.86%, to 16,335 yuan ($2,363.62) per metric ton. The most-active March butadiene rubber contract on the SHFE rose 105 yuan, or 0.82%, to 12,860 yuan per ton. The Japanese yen strengthened to 155.24 per U.S. dollar after rising 0.8% on Monday. Verbal warnings from authorities helped strengthen the yen after the currency weakened in the immediate aftermath of Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s election victory. A stronger currency makes yen-denominated assets less affordable to overseas buyers. Meanwhile, firm raw material prices supported Chineseand Singapore natural rubber contracts by pushing up spot and break-even prices, a trader said. Demand from factories outside China, which are generally willing to purchase raw materials at higher prices, also provided cost support, Gelin Dahua Futures said in a note. However, prices may be pressured this week and the next due to a decline in rubber demand from tire manufacturers that are shutting down factories ahead of the Lunar New Year. The front-month rubber contract on Singapore Exchange’s SICOM platform for March delivery last traded at 190.9 U.S. cents per kg, up 0.5% as of 0701 GMT. The Osaka Exchange is closed on Wednesday, February 11, for a holiday. [...]

Gold falls on investor caution ahead of key US economic data

Gold fell on Tuesday, though held above the $5,000-per-ounce level, as investors stayed cautious ahead of key U.S. jobs and inflation data due later this week that could help gauge the U.S. Federal Reserve’s interest rate trajectory. Spot gold fell 0.7% to $5,030.80 per ounce by 0716 GMT. The metal gained 2% on Monday, as the dollar weakened to its lowest level in more than a week. Gold scaled a record high of $5,594.82 on January 29. U.S. gold futures for April delivery lost 0.5% to $5,051.70 per ounce. Spot silver slipped 2.1% to $81.63 an ounce, after rising nearly 7% in the previous session. It had hit an all-time high of $121.64 on January 29. “We’re in a situation where gold has something of a built-in upside bias broadly, and now it’s a question of just how much will short-term Fed policy expectations matter,” said Ilya Spivak, head of global macro at Tastylive. The U.S. dollar edged higher on Tuesday, making greenback-priced metals more expensive for overseas buyers. Spivak added that gold is being pulled back to the $5,000 level from both the upper and lower price ranges, while silver is showing more volatility on speculative trading. Investors are awaiting a string of U.S. economic data - retail sales due Tuesday, the nonfarm payrolls report on Wednesday and inflation data on Friday. Markets are currently pricing in at least two 25-basis-point rate cuts in 2026, with the first expected in June. The non-yielding bullion tends to do well in a low-interest-rate environment. White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday that U.S. job gains could be lower in the coming months. For gold, “$5,000 is a support and $80 for silver. But intraday, both metals will be broadly range-bound, with a slight tilt towards negativity because of profit booking,” Jigar Trivedi, a senior research analyst at IndusInd Securities, said, adding that investors are cautious given recent volatility. Spot platinum shed 2% to $2,080.30 per ounce, while palladium lost 1.1% to $1,721.75. [...]

Japan’s 40-year bond yield slips for fourth session on demand from foreigners

TOKYO: Japan’s 40-year government bond yield slipped for a fourth straight session on Tuesday, supported by demand from foreigners after the yield hit a record high ahead of the country’s lower house election over the weekend. The 40-year JGB yield fell 8.5 basis points to 3.73%, its lowest since January 9. The 30-year yield slipped 6.5 bps to 3.495%. Yields move inversely to bond prices. These bond yields had hit a record high last month, after PrimeMinister Sanae Takaichi pledged to suspend taxes on food for two years in her election campaign. Her Liberal Democratic Party won in a landslide at the election. “Foreign investors are continuously scooping up super-long-dated bonds as their prices fell,” said Tomoaki Shishido, a senior rates strategist at Nomura Securities. Foreigners bought 2 trillion yen ($12.87 billion) of JGBs in the week ended January 31, the biggest amount since April last year, becoming net buyers of domestic bonds for a fifth straight week, according to the finance ministry. A 40-year bond auction held that week had a strong outcome and proved firm demand from foreigners, said Shishido. Japanese bonds rally as 40-year auction shows resilient demand before election The benchmark 10-year JGB yield fell 5.5 bps to 2.235%. The five-year yield fell 4 bps to 1.7%. The two-year yield fell 1 bp to 1.3%. On Monday, shorter-maturity bond yields jumped as the market braced for a weaker yen. The 2-year bond yield rose to its highest since May 1996, the 5-year JGB to a record high on that day. On Tuesday, the shorter-dated bond yields fell, as the yen did not weaken, diminishing expectations for the Bank of Japan’s early interest rate hike, said Eiichiro Miura, senior general manager of investments at Nissay Asset Management. The market had expected a revival of the so-called Takaichi trade in the post-election period, where a fiscal-dove primeminister would send the yen and bonds weaker while stocks rose.  A weaker yen typically boosts import costs, driving domestic prices higher. Shanghai copper rangebound as rising inventories, weak demand offset dollar

Shanghai copper rangebound as rising inventories, weak demand offset dollar

Shanghai copper was rangebound on Tuesday, as rising inventories and sluggish demand ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday offset a weaker U.S. dollar. The most-active copper contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed daytime trading up 0.05% at 101,560 yuan ($14,695.41) a metric ton. It rose as much as 0.98% earlier in the session. The benchmark three-month copper on the London Metal Exchange, meanwhile, declined 0.76% to $13,076 a ton as of 0700 GMT, after declining as much as 0.89%. The U.S. dollar continued to weaken on Tuesday, making greenback-priced commodities more affordable to other currency holders. Copper has been under pressure from rising inventories in warehouses registered with major exchanges, alongside weak demand in the run-up to China’s nine-day Lunar New Year break, starting February 15, when economic activity stalls. Despite persistent longer-term supply constraints, copper prices are expected to stay rangebound, Chinese brokerage GF Futures said in a note. Demand has cooled after Chinese downstream buyers wrapped up pre–holiday restocking, while visible inventories are rising globally and the COMEX–LME premium is narrowing, GF Futures said. LME copper stocks rose to 184,300 tons as of Friday, up from 137,225 tons on January 9. Copper stocks in SHFE sheds registered a nine-week rise on Friday to 248,911 tons. Meanwhile, Comex copper inventories continued to climb to a record 535,430 tons. The Yangshan copper premium, a gauge of Chinese demand for imported copper, was at $38 a ton compared to $20 earlier. It is still low compared with above $50 in late December, indicating weak demand in China. Among other SHFE base metals, tin soared 3.33%, lead rose 0.60%. Aluminium dipped 0.30%, zinc dropped 0.53% and nickel shed 0.19%. Elsewhere on the LME, tin climbed 0.11%, lead was up 0.03%. Aluminium dropped 0.62%, zinc dipped 0.25% and nickel shed 0.63%. [...]

Dalian iron ore ends flat, traders weigh low prices against tepid demand

SINGAPORE: Dalian iron ore futures closed daytime trade flat on Tuesday after six consecutive sessions of losses, as traders weighed low feedstock prices and declining shipments against soft demand. The most-traded May iron ore contract on China’s Dalian Commodity Exchange (DCE) closed daytime trade unchanged at 761.5 yuan ($110.19) a metric ton. The benchmark March iron ore on the Singapore Exchange was 0.5% higher at $100.4 a ton, trading above the $100 psychological threshold as of 0708 GMT. The total amount of iron ore arriving at 47 Chinese ports declined week-on-week from February 2-8, according to data released by consultancy Mysteel. Low Dalian iron ore prices amid weak market fundamentals encouraged feedstock buying from steel mills. Although the recent rise in port discharge rates and the decline in arrivals have provided some relief to supply-side pressure, port inventories remain at high levels, the Shanghai Metals Market said in a note. There is no clear inflection point for destocking as of now, and high inventory levels will continue to suppress prices, the Shanghai Metals Market said. With a lack of government stimulus to address the structural decline in demand, the iron ore market is likely to face headwinds over the next year, ANZ Research said in a note. Other steelmaking ingredients on the DCE struggled, with coking coal and coke down 1.67% and 1.71%, respectively. Market sentiment for coking coal and coke remains subdued due to weak demand for finished steel products and high inventory levels, according to the Shanghai Metals Market. Most steel benchmarks on the Shanghai Futures Exchange softened. Rebar retreated 0.55%, hot-rolled coil shed 0.65% and stainless steel lost 0.63%, while wire rod firmed 0.18%. [...]

Stocks open higher as KSE-100 gains over 500 points

Positive momentum was observed at the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), with the benchmark KSE-100 Index gaining over 500 points during intra-day trading on Tuesday. At 12pm, the benchmark index was hovering at 182,876.49, an increase of 536.11 points or 0.29%. Buying momentum was observed in key sectors, including automobile assemblers, cement, fertiliser, oil and gas exploration companies, OMCs, power generation and refinery. Index-heavy stocks, including HUBCO, MARI, POL, PSO, SSGC, SNGPL, MCB and UBL, traded in the green. Despite clear signs of improving macroeconomic stability, Pakistan’s economic outlook remains vulnerable to a range of domestic and external risks, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) said on Monday, calling for sustained policy discipline and deep structural reforms. On Monday, PSX remained under pressure as sustained institutional selling, weakness in index-heavy stocks, and technical adjustments pushed indices lower. The benchmark KSE-100 Index closed lower by 1,789.20 points, or 0.97%, settling at 182,340.38 points. Internationally, Asian stocks advanced for a second day in early trading on Tuesday, led by an extended rally in Tokyo’s benchmark after Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s decisive election victory over the weekend. MSCI’s broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan was up 0.7%, while the Nikkei 225 jumped 2.8%, rising for a third consecutive day to a fresh peak. The yen also strengthened for a second day. US equity futures cooled after a two-day rally, with S&P 500 e-mini futures down 0.1%, partially retracing gains on Wall Street overnight. On Monday, the S&P 500 rose 0.5%, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.9% as technology stocks found their footing following last week’s AI-sparked selloff. With several critical US economic reports due for release this week, including delayed payrolls data, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett said on Monday that job gains could be lower in the coming months as the Trump administration’s immigration policies slow labour growth and new AI tools boost productivity. Large firms’ dollar appetite dampens Indian rupee rise post trade deal

Large firms’ dollar appetite dampens Indian rupee rise post trade deal

MUMBAI: The Indian rupee’s bounce on the back of a trade breakthrough between New Delhi and Washington has run into speed bumps on account of heavy dollar demand from large Indian firms, capping the currency’s rise even as the greenback retreats broadly. The Indian rupee was up 0.1% at 90.6725 per dollar on Tuesday, at 11 a.m. IST. It ran up to a peak of 90.0450 last week and has since steadily drifted lower. Gains in regional currencies helped lend positive cues to the rupee, but, as seen in recent sessions, corporate dollar appetite stood in the way of meaningful gains. Large Indian companies, including steel and oil firms, have been among active dollar buyers over recent sessions, which has exerted some pressure on the rupee, traders said. Meanwhile, the initial boost from the U.S. trade deal announcement has softened as traders parse the fine print and gauge how it may play out. The market’s assessment of the deal seems to be of “short-term stability, but questionable long-term gains. That scepticism limited any meaningful support for the rupee,” said Amit Pabari, managing director at FX advisory firm CR Forex. “USD/INR may gradually drift higher toward 91.00–91.20 in the coming days.” Indian farm unions and opposition parties have called for nationwide protests against the India-U.S. trade framework, saying it risks hurting the farm sector by allowing more U.S. imports. The government maintains that key staples remain protected. In global markets, the dollar index was down 0.1% at 98.8, extending its slide from the previous session on the back of strength in the Japanese yen and Chinese yuan. The yuan surged to its strongest level in nearly three years against the dollar on Tuesday, underpinned by heavy company demand for the local currency ahead of China’s biggest festival. [...]

Remittances increased by nearly 15.4% year-on-year (YoY), compared to $3.0 billion recorded in the same month last year. Monthly remittances were down 4% from $3.59 billion in December. During the first seven months of the fiscal year (7MFY26), remittance inflows stood at $23.2 billion, up from $20.9 billion in 7MFY25, a jump of 11.3%. “Remittances growth momentum is continuing on the back of higher manpower exports in previous years, lower differential in formal and informal exchange market and continuation of remittances incentive package,” said Topline Securities. “Our remittances target for FY26 is at $41 billion, up 7.5% from the FY25 level of $38 billion,” it added. Remittances play a significant role in supporting the country’s external account, stimulating Pakistan’s economic activity, and supplementing the disposable incomes of remittance-dependent households. Meanwhile, the government promotes remittances through incentives and formal channels to sustain steady growth and ensure their role in economic stability. Last year, SBP noted that since 2009, the Pakistan Remittance Initiative (PRI) has been working to enhance home remittances through formal channels in Pakistan. As a result of active engagements with financial institutions (FIs), the number of FIs on the PRI network has increased from around 25 in 2009 to more than 50 in 2024. The FIs include conventional banks, Islamic banks, microfinance banks, and Exchange Companies (ECs). Further, Electronic Money Institutions (EMIs) are also allowed to receive home remittances through banks. The number of international entities has increased from around 45 in 2009 to around 400 at present. Breakdown of remittances Overseas Pakistanis in Saudi Arabia remitted the largest amount in January 2026, sending $740 million. The amount was up 2% on a yearly basis, but down 9% compared to the $813 million sent by the expatriates in December. Inflows from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) rose by 12% on a yearly basis, from $622 million to $694 in January 2026. Remittances from the UK amounted to $572 million during January 2026, up by 2% compared to $560 million in December 2025. YoY inflows from the UK were up by 29%. Overseas Pakistanis in the US sent $295 million in January 2026, a YoY decrease of 1%, and down 2% on a monthly basis. Meanwhile, remittances from European Union (EU) countries clocked in at $480 million in January, recording a significant increase of 36% on a yearly basis. [...]

Australian shares little changed as financials cap mining gains

Australian shares closed flat on Tuesday as gains in miners and gold stocks were offset by declines in banks, while insurance stocks came under pressure after the launch of an AI tool by Insurify. The S&P/ASX 200 ended 2.7 points lower at 8,867.40, after rising 1.9% on Monday. Financials weighed on the benchmark and slid 1.1%, dragged down by sharp losses in insurance companies. “The insurance brokers are weaker following the lead from their U.S. peers after the release of news that digital competitor Insurify has released a ChatGPT comparison app, potentially impacting the long term value of brokers,” said Luke Winchester, portfolio manager at Merewether Capital. “It sums up where we are in the current market with regards to AI fears, a peer releasing an app has wiped billions off the market capitalisations of the insurance broking sector.” Shares of Steadfast Group, AUB Group and Insurance Australia Group fell between 6.1% and 9.5%. Capping losses, miners advanced 1% on higher iron ore prices. BHP Group rose 1.1% and Rio Tinto gained 1.4%. Gold stocks climbed 1.3% for a second straight session, with Genesis Minerals up 2.8% and St Barbara rising 4.4%. Technology stocks added 2.1%, tracking overseas peers. India bonds tread water before large state debt sale

MUMBAI: Indian sovereign bonds were flat early on Tuesday as value buying after a two-day selloff was offset by caution ahead of a large state debt auction. The benchmark 6.48% 2035 bond yield was at 6.7538% at 10:35 a.m. IST after settling at 6.7559% on Monday. Yields eased slightly across maturities. Traders remained wary as states are set to auction 486.15 billion rupees ($5.36 billion) of bonds later in the day, about 60 billion rupees above schedule and the largest weekly issuance so far this year. Investors had sold off debt in the last two sessions after the RBI did not announce any fresh liquidity measures in its policy outcome on Friday, while keeping the repo rate unchanged as expected. “Supply is the main factor right now and 6.80% on the 10-year isn’t far off,” a trader at an asset manager said. “For now, an accrual strategy looks attractive(which includes buying and holding bonds to earn interest income rather than betting on price gains.)” India equity mutual fund inflows ease for second straight month in January Traders said the previous session saw demand for short-tenor government and corporate bonds as liquidity improved, while longer-dated debt remained under pressure from supply concerns. System liquidity surplus has averaged about 2.4 trillion rupees so far in February, up from 660 billion rupees in January. Despite a cumulative 125-basis-point rate cut and roughly $100 billion of bond purchases by the Reserve Bank of India, government borrowing costs remain elevated as supply outpaces demand. The 10-year yield is still near year-ago levels, with traders expecting further upside as record borrowing looms next year and the easing cycle nears its end. Rates India’s overnight index swap rates eased on Tuesday, buoyed by high liquidity and lower US Treasury yields. The one-year OIS rate fell 1.25 bps to 5.5%, while the two-year rate dropped 2 bps to 5.67%. The five-year OIS rate was down about 3 bps at 6.1525%. [...]

AI central to improving revenue, public service delivery: finance minister

Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb on Tuesday said artificial intelligence was increasingly central to Pakistan’s efforts to improve public service delivery, strengthen revenue administration, and support evidence-based policymaking. He was speaking at a panel discussion titled “AI for Public Service Transformation and SDG Acceleration” during the National Artificial Intelligence Workshop in Islamabad. Addressing the forum, the finance minister said countries were adopting artificial intelligence at varying speeds, shaped by their economic structures and development priorities. For Pakistan, he stressed, the focus must remain on applied and practical solutions that deliver measurable gains in efficiency, transparency and productivity, rather than pursuing technology for its own sake. READ MORE: Pakistan to invest $1 billion in AI by 2030, announces PM Shehbaz Aurangzeb said AI-enabled systems were already playing a growing role in improving tax compliance, enforcement, and decision-making. He noted that the government’s ongoing tax transformation, based on reforms in people, processes and technology, was leveraging AI-driven customer relationship management systems, production monitoring tools, risk-based compliance mechanisms and faceless customer processes. “These interventions are aimed at reducing leakages, enhancing transparency and improving revenue outcomes,” he said, adding that limiting discretionary human intervention through technology was essential to curbing inefficiencies and corruption. The finance minister said AI-led systems had delivered tangible fiscal gains that would not have been possible through manual processes alone. Touching on digital assets, Aurangzeb said the establishment of the Pakistan Virtual Asset Regulatory Authority (PVARA) reflected the government’s intent to manage risks while integrating emerging technologies into the formal economy. READ MORE: Saudi Arabia eyes Pakistani talent to spearhead its technological transformation: minister Bringing such activity into a regulated framework, he said, was vital for financial stability and unlocking future economic potential. He also underscored the importance of investing in human capital and skills development to enable Pakistan’s youth to access higher-value segments of the global technology ecosystem. Advanced technologies such as blockchain and data analytics, he added, could support productivity-led growth and expand income opportunities. Concluding his remarks, Aurangzeb said artificial intelligence offered significant opportunities for Pakistan in areas including revenue mobilisation, public service delivery, and climate and population management. However, realising these benefits, he cautioned, would require clear policy direction, institutional readiness and a coordinated, whole-of-government approach to digital transformation. Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik, Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja, and Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal were also present at the session. KSE-100 Index sheds nearly 200 points in volatile trading

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) closed marginally lower on Tuesday, with the benchmark index closing with a loss of nearly 200 points as investors remained cautious amid the absence of fresh triggers. During the trading session, the market witnessed intra-day volatility, touching a high of 183,216 points and a low of 181,499 points, reflecting a range-bound trading. At close, the KSE-100 Index settled at 182,153.55, a decrease of 186.83 points or 0.10%. “The local bourse blew hot and cold in today’s session as bulls failed to sustain early momentum,” brokerage house Topline Securities said in its post-market report. Heavyweight selling weighed on the index, with HBL, TRG, KEL, AKBL, and BAFL jointly knocking off 461 points. Select buying in ENGROH, LUCK, FFC, and HUBC provided some cushion, contributing 738 points, though not enough to reverse the trend, it added. The inflow of overseas workers’ remittances into Pakistan stood at $3.46 billion in January 2026, the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) data showed on Tuesday. Remittances increased by nearly 15.4% year-on-year (YoY), compared to $3.0 billion recorded in the same month last year. Monthly remittances were down 4% from $3.59 billion in December. Pakistan’s economic outlook remains vulnerable to a range of domestic and external risks, the SBP said on Monday, calling for sustained policy discipline and deep structural reforms. Volume on the all-share index increased to 1,062.31 million from 931.36 million recorded in the previous close. The value of shares declined to Rs37.88 billion from Rs58.87 billion in the previous session. K.Electric was the volume leader with 253.68 million shares, followed by Cnergyico PK with 189.38 million shares, and WorldCall Telecom with 117.05 million shares. Shares of 482 companies were traded on Tuesday, of which 153 registered an increase, 280 recorded a fall, and 49 remained unchanged. [...]

Alphabet sells bonds worth $20 billion to fund AI spending

Alphabet has sold bonds worth $20 billion in a seven-part offering stretching out to 2066, tapping the debt market to fund its surging spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure. The disclosure on Tuesday underscored Big Tech’s growing appetite for credit, in a shift away from years of relying on strong cash flows to fund investment in new technologies. The pivot has raised investor concerns as payoffs remain small from the hundreds of billions of dollars U.S. tech giants are pouring into AI. READ MORE: Alphabet hits $4 trillion valuation as AI refocus lifts sentiment Their capital expenditure is expected to total at least $630 billion this year, with most of spending focused on data-centers and the AI chips that power them. India bonds get state debt sale boost

MUMBAI: Indian government bonds snapped a two-day slide on Tuesday after a state debt sale attracted strong demand, easing some worries about underlying market appetite. The benchmark 6.48% 2035 bond yield fell over 3 basis points to 6.7246%. Bond yields move inversely to prices. Borrowing costs have remained elevated despite steep rate cuts and roughly $100 billion of bond purchases by the central bank, with supply outpacing demand. A surge in states’ borrowing has pushed up overall supply and raised long bond yields, complicating the transmission of the local central bank’s rate cuts. New Delhi will borrow a record 17.2 trillion rupees ($189.95 billion) through bonds in the fiscal year starting April 1. The borrowing calendar for the coming financial year will be key for the market, said Kruti Chheta, fund manager and fixed income analyst, Mirae Asset Investment Managers (India). “There will be value in the longer-tenor if there is shift in supply to shorter-end.” READ MORE: Indian bonds slip on heavy state debt supply, post-RBI move Demand for long-term notes has been softening, and yield premiums have risen, with banks tilting toward state debt and insurers and pension funds shifting toward equities, as per the Reserve Bank of India’s December financial stability report. The weighted-average maturity of outstanding debt and annual issuance of both central and state government debt have also risen, the report said. On Tuesday, states raised 476.2 billion rupees ($5.26 billion) via bonds at lower-than-expected cut-off yields, which boosted sentiment. The supply was higher than an initial plan and traders had been bracing for tepid demand. Rates India’s overnight index swap rates eased on Tuesday, buoyed by improved sentiment after strong demand at state debt sale. The one-year OIS rate was steady at 5.51%, while the two-year rate dropped 3.5 bps to 5.6550%. The five-year OIS rate was down 5 bps at 6.13%. [...]

The acquisition, valued at seven figures USD in a combination of cash and equity, comes less than two years after Virtuans launched operations, which is a testament to the calibre of AI innovation emerging from Pakistan, read a statement. Meanwhile, both founders, Raheel and Mudassar, have been appointed to leadership positions at AutoAcquire. Virtuans AI developed autonomous conversational agents capable of handling sales and customer support functions across businesses. “We built Virtuans with the belief that AI agents should not just respond to queries, but truly understand context, learn from interactions, and deliver outcomes that match or exceed human performance,” said Muddassar Sharif, co-founder of Virtuans AI. “This acquisition validates that vision and opens doors to apply our technology at a much larger scale in one of America’s biggest markets.” Meanwhile, Raheel Ahmad, co-founder of Virtuans AI, expressed that the acquisition “sends a strong signal” that Pakistani AI talent can build world-class technology, attract US companies, and take leading roles in global tech firms. AutoAcquire AI, led by auto software industry veteran Anthony Monteiro, aims to transform how automotive dealerships acquire vehicles in the United States, unifying targeting, offers, inspections, logistics, and fraud protection into a single AI-driven platform. “Virtuans has built an impressive foundation in intelligent automation and AI agent development,” said Anthony Monteiro, CEO at AutoAcquire AI. “By bringing their expertise into AutoAcquire AI, we are expanding our ability to deliver agentic AI solutions that can operate proactively, communicate naturally, and drive real outcomes for dealers looking to scale acquisition efficiently.” The acquisition positions Virtuans’ agentic AI technology at the heart of AutoAcquire’s efforts to disrupt the $1 trillion U.S. used car market. A milestone for Pakistan’s tech ecosystem Virtuans believes that the deal represents more than just a business transaction – it signals growing international recognition of Pakistan’s AI capabilities. While Pakistani software developers have long contributed to global technology companies, this acquisition demonstrates that Pakistani founders can build proprietary AI platforms that command attention from established American acquirers. “For a nation working to establish itself as a hub for technology innovation, the Virtuans acquisition offers proof that Pakistani startups can compete at the highest levels of the global AI industry,” read the statement. [...]

India will use more coal over the next 25 years, report says

NEW DELHI: India’s coal consumption could more than double by mid-century before plunging sharply as the country shifts toward cleaner energy, long-term projections published by government think-tank NITI Aayog show. Under the current policy scenario - which assumes no major new decarbonisation measures - coal demand is expected to peak at 2.62 billion metric tons in 2050, more than double the current 1.26 billion. Even by 2070, industrial demand is expected to keep coal consumption at a relatively high 1.80 billion tons, the report shows. India is aiming for net-zero emissions by 2070, and under this scenario, coal consumption is expected to peak at 1.83 billion tons in 2050 before collapsing to just 161 million tons by 2070. Virtually all remaining coal use in 2070 would be limited to hard-to-abate sectors such as steel and cement and would require carbon capture, utilisation and storage to meet emissions goals, the report said. The world’s second-largest coal consumer after China relies on the fuel for nearly three-quarters of its power generation, and aims to ramp up its coal power capacity to 307 GW by 2034-35 from 212 GW now to meet forecast electricity demand. The report warns that coal will remain essential in the near term to back up rising solar and wind power capacity and balance the grid. In order to shift away from coal, India will require large-scale battery storage, growth in nuclear energy, grid expansion, and lower costs of clean technologies, the report said. Even if coal power plants continue to operate, many of them will run less often and will be used mainly to handle peak electricity demand or emergencies, the report added. [...]

India’s gold ETF inflows top equity mutual funds for the first time

Indian investors piled into gold exchange-traded funds in January as prices soared amid rising geopolitical risk, surpassing flows into equity funds for the first time, industry data showed on Tuesday. Last month saw gold climb to record high levels, double where it traded in January 2024 in dollar terms, while investors in Indian equities held back as an agreement to reduce tariffs on Indian exports to the U.S. had yet to be reached. Gold ETFs are easier to buy and hold than physical gold and India is one of the world’s biggest markets for the metal. “We saw extreme volatility in the markets in January, particularly due to U.S. government’s intervention in Venezuela and imposition of new tariffs,” said Venkat Chalasani, chief executive at Association of Mutual Funds in India (AMFI). Net inflows into Indian equity mutual funds fell 14.35% month-on-month to 240.29 billion rupees ($2.65 billion) – the second straight month of decline. India equity mutual fund inflows ease for second straight month in January Flows to gold exchange-traded funds meanwhile, more than doubled from the previous month to 240.4 billion rupees, putting them just ahead of equity flows for the first time, AMFI data showed. Systematic investment plans hold up Equity mutual funds have seen uninterrupted monthly inflows since February 2021, powered by systematic investment plans (SIPs), government reforms and supportive central bank policy. That steady domestic money has helped the market shrug off relentless foreign selling and turbo-charged a post-COVID rally in stocks. Inflows into equities through SIPs remained largely unchanged from the previous month at 310.02 billion rupees in January, the data showed. The benchmark Nifty 50 and Sensex dropped 3.1% and 3.5% in January, while the broader small-caps and mid-caps fell 4.7% and 3.4%, respectively. On the other hand, spot gold prices rose about 13% during the month, marking their sixth consecutive monthly rise. Gold falls on investor caution ahead of key US economic data Changing investor behaviour “Investor behaviour is becoming more balanced and risk-aware, with allocations gradually shifting toward stability, diversification, and valuation comfort rather than aggressive positioning in slightly riskier segments,” said Himanshu Srivastava, principal of manager research at Morningstar Investment Research India. This also reflected in a 28% rise in inflows into large-cap equity schemes at 20.05 billion rupees, while inflows into mid-cap and small-cap schemes fell 23.7% and 23.1% month-on-month to 31.85 billion rupees and 29.42 billion rupees, respectively. “Looking ahead, improving global cues following India-EU and India-U.S. trade developments, combined with stable domestic macros, should help investor sentiment improve,” said Ankur Punj, managing director – business head at Equirus Wealth.

Cisco unveils new AI networking chip, taking on Broadcom and Nvidia

SAN FRANCISCO: Cisco Systems on Tuesday launched a new chip and router designed to speed information through massive data centers that will compete against offerings from Broadcom and Nvidia for a piece of the $600 billion AI infrastructure spending boom. Cisco said its Silicon One G300 switch chip, expected to go on sale in the second half of the year, will help the chips that train and deliver AI systems talk to each other over hundreds of thousands of links. The chip will be made with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co’s 3-nanometer chipmaking technology and will have several new “shock absorber” features designed to help networks of AI chips from bogging down when hit with large spikes of data traffic, Martin Lund, executive vice president of Cisco’s common hardware group, told Reuters in an interview. Cisco expects the chip to help some AI computing jobs get done 28% faster, in part by re-routing data around any problems in the network automatically, within microseconds. “This happens when you have tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands of connections - it happens quite regularly,” Lund said. “We focus on the total end-to-end efficiency of the network.” Networking has become a key competitive field in AI. When Nvidia unveiled its newest systems last month, one of the six key chips in the system was a networking chip that competes with Cisco’s offerings. Broadcom is going after the same market with its “Tomahawk” series of chips.

India in talks over critical minerals deals with Brazil, Canada, France, Netherlands, sources say

NEW DELHI: India is in talks with Brazil, Canada, France and the Netherlands over deals to jointly explore, extract, process and recycle critical minerals, sources said, as it broadens its global outreach to secure supplies of key raw materials. The focus would be on lithium and rare earths, and India would also seek access to mineral-processing technologies, the sources said, declining to be identified because the discussions  are confidential. Heavy reliance on arch rival China, which dominates global supplies of many minerals and has advanced mining and processing technology, underscores the need for India to reach out to a range of countries as it accelerates its energy transition to cut emissions, mining experts said. However, from discovery to production, mining can take years, as exploration alone runs five to seven years and often ends without a viable mine. India aims to replicate elements of a critical minerals agreement it signed with Germany in January, which covers exploration, processing and recycling, as well as the acquisition and development of mineral assets in both countries and in third countries, one of the sources said. Carney likely to visit India in early March as Canada trade pivot intensifies, envoy says “There are requests and we are talking to France, Netherlands and Brazil while the agreement with Canada is under active consideration,” the source said. The Ministry of Mines is leading the effort, the sources said. Canada’s Prime Minister Mark Carney is likely to visit India in early March and sign deals on uranium, energy, minerals and artificial intelligence. Asked for comment, Canada’s Natural Resources Department referred to a January statement saying both sides had agreed to formalise cooperation on critical minerals in the coming weeks. Brazil’s embassy in New Delhi, India’s Ministry of Mines and the foreign ministry did not respond to Reuters’ requests for comment. The embassy of the Netherlands did not comment while the embassy of France declined to comment. Coal India eyes rare earth pacts in Australia, Russia and Africa, unit exec says India has been scouting globally for critical minerals and has signed pacts with Argentina, Australia, and Japan, and is in talks with Peru and Chile on broader bilateral agreements that also cover critical minerals. India’s expanding international engagement comes at a time when finance ministers from the G7 and other major economies met in Washington last month to discuss ways to cut dependence on rare earths from China. In 2023, India identified more than 20 minerals, including lithium, as “critical” for its energy transition and to meet rising demand from industry and the infrastructure sector. [...]

Pakistan shows marginal improvement in global Corruption Perceptions Index

Pakistan’s standing in the Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) 2025 has shown a slight improvement, with the country’s score rising to 28 out of 100. According to the report released on Tuesday by the Transparency International, Pakistan now ranks 136th out of 182 countries, a modest step up from its 2024 position of 135th out of 180 surveyed nations. The CPI ranks 182 countries and territories worldwide by their perceived levels of public sector corruption. It assesses perceived levels of public sector corruption on a scale of 0 (highly corrupt) to 100 (very clean). Commenting on the 2025 results, Transparency International Pakistan Chair Justice (retd) Zia Perwez acknowledged the country’s progress while stressing the need for consistency. “While Pakistan is undertaking commendable efforts through governance and institutional reforms, it is imperative that the recommendations of the IMF Governance and Corruption Diagnostic Assessment are implemented effectively,” he stated, adding that such measures are vital to sustaining Pakistan’s upward momentum in the coming years. READ MORE: Corruption a persistent challenge in Pakistan, says IMF The Transparency International said the 2025 Corruption Perceptions Index shows that corruption remains a serious threat in every part of the world, although there are limited signs of progress. “Leaders must act to tackle abuses of power and the wider factors driving this decline, such as the roll-back of democratic checks and balances, and attacks on independent civil society,” it stressed. Anti-government protests in many parts of the world show that people are fed up with unaccountable leadership and are demanding reform. While 31 countries have significantly reduced their corruption levels since 2012, the rest are failing to tackle the problem – they have stayed stagnant or got worse during the same period. The global average has fallen to a new low of 42, while more than two-thirds of countries score below 50. And people are paying the price, as corruption leads to under-funded hospitals, unbuilt flood defences and blights the hopes and dreams of young people. [...]

Iran warns of ‘destructive’ influence on diplomacy ahead of Netanyahu’s US trip

TEHRAN: Iran warned Tuesday of “destructive” influence on diplomacy ahead of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington for talks expected to focus on US negotiations with Tehran. “Our negotiating party is America. It is up to America to decide to act independently of the pressures and destructive influences that are detrimental to the region,” said Iranian foreign ministry spokesman Esmail Baqaei in a weekly press briefing. “The Zionist regime has repeatedly, as a saboteur, shown that it opposes any diplomatic process in our region that leads to peace.” Tehran and Washington resumed talks in Muscat on Friday, months after earlier negotiations collapsed following Israel’s unprecedented bombing campaign against Iran last June, which triggered a 12-day war. Iran security chief visits Oman after talks with US During the conflict, Israel targeted senior Iranian military officials, nuclear scientists and nuclear sites, as well as residential areas. The United States later joined the campaign, launching its own strikes on key Iranian nuclear facilities. Iran responded with drone and missile attacks on Israel and by targeting the largest US military base in the Middle East, located in Qatar. “The June experience was a very bad experience. Therefore, taking these experiences into account, we are determined to secure Iran’s national interests through diplomacy,” Baqaei said. He insisted that Iran’s focus would remain strictly on the nuclear file in return for sanctions relief. Iran doubts whether US taking negotiations seriously: foreign minister Tehran has repeatedly said it rejects any negotiations that extend beyond that issue. On Saturday, Netanyahu’s office said in a statement that the Israeli premier “believes any negotiations must include limitations on ballistic missiles and a halting of the support for the Iranian axis” – referring to Iran’s allied armed groups in the region. The talks followed threats from Washington and the deployment of a US aircraft carrier group to the region after Iran’s deadly crackdown on anti-government protests last month. Iranian authorities said the protests, which erupted in late December over the rising cost of living, began as peaceful demonstrations before turning into “riots” involving killings and vandalism, which they said were inflamed by the United States and Israel. [...]

India regulator stalls new exchanges’ entry into options market, sources say

MUMBAI: India’s market regulator has stopped the country’s two newest exchanges from offering trading in equity derivatives and has asked them to build up their share-trading businesses first, two regulatory sources with direct knowledge of the matter said. Late last year, the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX) and the Metropolitan Stock Exchange (MSE) separately sought approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to launch and develop equity cash and derivative products, according to exchange disclosures. NCDEX predominantly trades agricultural commodities, while MSE mainly offers currency derivatives and has very thin equity volumes. Both exchanges have been looking to diversify their businesses. SEBI’s decision underscores continued caution over India’s soaring equity derivatives market, where premiums are now roughly twice the size of the cash market, compared with 2% to 3% in major global economies. The regulator’s directive to the exchanges telling them to pause plans for derivatives products has not been previously reported. Despite steps taken to cool derivative trading, India’s NSE remains the most active derivatives exchange, accounting for more than 70% of index options contracts traded worldwide, according to data from World Federation of Exchanges. India regulator accuses executives at EY, PwC of insider trading Earlier this month, the government raised transaction taxes to help cool derivative trading volumes. Studies have shown that 90% of retail investors incur losses. “SEBI wants there to be a gap of at least six months between the launch of cash equities and equity derivatives,” the first source said. “Exchanges won’t be granted permission to launch derivatives until SEBI is satisfied that there is an underlying liquid cash market.” The regulator does not want new players to further fuel derivatives trading without first establishing an underlying cash market, the source said. “The exchanges will be required to demonstrate sufficient cash market participation, liquidity and price discovery before being permitted to launch derivatives,” the second source said. The sources declined to be identified as they are not authorised to speak to the media. SEBI and NCDEX did not respond to requests for comment. MSE did not answer questions about its equity derivatives plans but referred Reuters to a statement issued last month that it is “in process of appointing market makers to  strengthen liquidity and market depth in its equity segment.” Equity trading in India is dominated by the NSE and its older peer BSE. Both NCDEX and MSE raised capital in 2025 to fund their expansion into equities and upgrade technology. NCDEX raised 7.7 billion rupees ($85 million) from 61 investors including some global trading giants: Citadel Securities and Tower Research, a U.S.-based high-frequency-trading firm. MSE raised 12 billion rupees from private equity firms including Peak XV Venture Partners Investments VII and leading India brokerages including Groww and a unit of Zerodha. SEBI has also asked the two exchanges to upgrade their technology before entering the equity segment. “Until exchanges demonstrate robust technology, there is no question of them starting equity trading, let alone derivatives,” the first source said.

US tech firm AutoAcquire AI acquires Pakistani AI startup Virtuans in seven-figure deal

In a significant moment for Pakistan’s technology ecosystem, Virtuans AI, a conversational artificial intelligence startup founded by Pakistani entrepreneurs Raheel Ahmad and Muddassar Sharif, has been acquired by AutoAcquire AI, a US-based automotive technology company.

PAF showcases air prowess at World Defence Show

A Pakistan Air Force (PAF) contingent is participating in the World Defence Show - 2026 in Saudi Arabia, featuring its cutting-edge JF-17 Thunder Block-III Multi-role fighter jet and the highly acclaimed Super Mushshak basic trainer aircraft. The World Defence Show - 2026 serves as a premier global platform for defence and security. PAF’s participation at WDS-2026 reinforces Pakistan’s position as an emerging hub of aerospace innovation, operational competence and reliable defence solutions, the military’s media wing said. According to the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the participation underscores PAF’s commitment to showcasing Pakistan’s rapidly advancing indigenous aerospace capabilities and its proven operational excellence. “The JF-17 Block-III, representing the pinnacle of Pakistan’s combat aviation technology, features state-of-the-art avionics, an advanced AESA radar, enhanced electronic warfare suite and beyond-visual-range combat capabilities, making it a formidable 4.5 generation fighter jet addressing the operational needs of modern air forces,” the ISPR said. Alongside it, the Super Mushshak trainer aircraft highlights Pakistan’s strength in pilot training solutions. Renowned for its reliability, cost-effectiveness and ease of maintenance, the Super Mushshak has been successfully inducted by several friendly countries and continues to serve as a benchmark platform for basic flying training worldwide, it said. PAF’s presence at WDS-2026, the ISPR said, reflects its leadership’s vision of fostering defence cooperation, promoting defence exports and strengthening strategic partnerships with friendly nations. “The exhibition provides an opportunity for international delegations, defence officials and military industry leaders to engage with PAF representatives and explore avenues for collaboration, training and technology transfer,” it maintained. 19 countries participate in Pakistan Army Team Spirit Competition Meanwhile, the 9th International Pakistan Army Team Spirit (PATS) Competition successfully concluded at Kharian, the ISPR said. The Team Spirit Competition is a 60-hour long patrolling exercise, designed to enhance professional military skills through the exchange of innovative ideas, tactical experiences and best practices among participating teams. This year the competition featured wide ranging participation from 19 countries including Bahrain, Bangladesh, Belarus, Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Maldives, Morocco, Nepal, Qatar, Sri Lanka, Turkiye, United States of America and Uzbekistan and Indonesia. Myanmar and Thailand attended the exercise as observers. Sixteen domestic teams from the Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy, along with observers from the Pakistan Air Force also participated in the event. Addressing the closing ceremony, Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir commended all participating teams for their exceptional professionalism, physical and mental endurance, operational competence and high morale displayed during the exercise. He emphasised the importance of such multinational engagements in enhancing collective preparedness and adapting to the evolving character of modern warfare. Reaffirming the core values of the Pakistan Army, Field Marshal Munir underscored the enduring soldiery attributes of “character, courage and competence”, which have been consistently demonstrated by Pakistani soldiers, particularly in the ongoing fight against terrorism. CDF Munir presented awards to the outstanding participants of the competition. The army chief also witnessed miscellaneous training activities at the National Counter Terrorism Centre Pabbi including a visit to newly established Tactical Simulator. He lauded the efforts of troops and technical team and emphasised the importance of simulator-based training to complement traditional training methods. [...]

Japan’s 40-year bond yield slips for fourth session on demand from foreigners
